Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, और Pronunciation।
Part 1: interview
आपकी पहचान जाँचने के बाद examiner आपके घर, शहर, काम या पढ़ाई के बारे में पूछता है, फिर दो-तीन और topic sets पर जाता है, जैसे खाना, मौसम, पढ़ना या technology। सवाल छोटे और व्यक्तिगत होते हैं: "How often do you cook?", "Did you enjoy art lessons at school?"
Do you prefer to study in the morning or in the evening? "Definitely in the morning. My concentration drops off sharply after lunch, so I try to get anything demanding done before ten. In the evening I'm far more likely to end up scrolling through my phone than reading."
जवाब रटने से बचें; examiner रटी हुई बोली पहचान लेते हैं और बस उस विषय पर चले जाते हैं जो आपने तैयार नहीं किया। एक सेकंड सोचने का समय ठीक है, लेकिन हर जवाब से पहले चुप्पी या "um, let me think" आपके Fluency स्कोर में दिखेगा।
Part 2: long turn
Sample cue card
Describe a skill you learned that was difficult at first. You should say: what the skill was; how you learned it; why it was difficult at the beginning; and explain how you feel about having this skill now.
Band 6 स्तर का जवाब
"OK, so I want to talk about driving. I learned to drive when I was, um, twenty-two years old. I learned it from my uncle, because he has a car and he is a good driver. At first it was very difficult because there are many things to think about, like the mirrors, the gears, the other cars. I was very nervous and I made many mistakes. One time I almost hit a wall. But I practised every weekend for maybe three months and then it became more easy. Now I feel good about it. I can drive to work and I don't need to take the bus. I think it is a very useful skill and everybody should learn it."
Band 8 स्तर का जवाब
"I'd like to talk about learning to drive, which I finally got round to in my early twenties, mainly because I'd just started a job on the other side of the city and the commute by bus was eating up two hours a day. My uncle offered to teach me, which sounded ideal until I realised how little patience he actually had. What made it so hard at the beginning was the sheer number of things you have to coordinate at once: checking the mirrors, managing the clutch, judging the speed of other cars, all while trying to stay calm. There was one particularly embarrassing moment when I stalled in the middle of a busy junction and the whole queue behind me started honking. Having said that, after a few months of practising every weekend, it gradually became second nature. Looking back now, I'm genuinely glad I persevered, partly because of the independence it gives me, but mostly because it taught me that skills which feel impossible at first usually just need consistent practice."
दोनों जवाबों में क्या फ़र्क है
- Fluency and Coherence. Band 6 का जवाब "and", "but" और "because" से जुड़े छोटे वाक्यों से बना है, और शुरुआत में ही एक hesitation marker है। यह समझ में आता है, लेकिन विचारों को जोड़ने का काम सुनने वाले को करना पड़ता है। Band 8 का जवाब लंबे, जुड़े हुए हिस्सों में चलता है, और उसके discourse markers ("Having said that", "Looking back now") कहानी को आगे बढ़ाते हैं, सिर्फ़ सजावट नहीं करते; कोई भी ठहराव content के लिए है, शब्द खोजने के लिए नहीं।
- Lexical Resource. Band 6 की vocabulary पर्याप्त है लेकिन generic: "very difficult", "many things", "very useful"। Band 8 का जवाब सटीक, idiomatic collocations ("got round to", "eating up two hours", "sheer number", "became second nature", "persevered") इस्तेमाल करता है और card के शब्दों को दोहराने के बजाय paraphrase करता है।
- Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Band 6 का जवाब सरल वाक्यों पर टिका है और उसमें एक बुनियादी गलती है ("more easy")। Band 8 का जवाब past perfect ("I'd just started"), relative clauses, एक cleft sentence ("What made it so hard was..."), एक participle clause ("Having said that") और एक modal के बीच सहजता से चलता है, बिना किसी गलती के।
- Pronunciation.
Part 3: discussion
Part 3 आपके अपने अनुभव से बड़ी दुनिया की ओर बढ़ता है, Part 2 के theme से जुड़े सवालों के साथ जो चर्चा बढ़ने के साथ और abstract होते जाते हैं। आम प्रकार के सवाल हैं तुलना ("How has the way people learn skills changed?"), मूल्यांकन ("Is it better to learn practical skills at school or at work?"), अनुमान ("Will people still need to drive in the future?"), कारण और समाधान। अगर examiner "But some people would say..." कहकर आपकी बात को चुनौती देता है, तो यह और range दिखाने का न्योता है, आलोचना नहीं।
एक भरोसेमंद framework है: position, reason, example, qualification:
Do you think schools should teach practical skills such as cooking or managing money? "I'd argue they should, mainly because these are skills every adult needs regardless of their career, whereas a lot of academic content is only ever used by a minority. In my own case, I left school able to solve equations but with no idea how to budget. That said, curriculum time is limited, so something would have to make way for it."
Examiner सुनना चाहता है एक टिकाऊ तर्क, उचित hedging ("tend to", "to some extent"), conditionals और comparatives, और abstract विचारों के लिए vocabulary। Part 3 में एक-वाक्य के जवाब सबसे आम वजह हैं कि एक मज़बूत speaker अपने Fluency and Coherence स्कोर से निराश होता है।
IELTS Speaking tips: आम गलतियाँ जिनसे बचें
- रटे हुए जवाब या "That's a very interesting question" जैसी तैयार शुरुआत।
- Part 1 और Part 3 में एक-वाक्य के जवाब।
- Part 2 में जल्दी रुक जाना; एक मिनट से कम लगातार बोलने का बहुत कम सबूत है।
- तैयारी के मिनट में पूरे वाक्य लिखना और फिर उन्हें पढ़कर सुनाना।
- एक ही connector पर टिके रहना ("and then... and then...")
