🌈 Grammar A1-18: Common adjectives

The eighteenth material of the Fleydo A1 grammar series, written for learners of about seven to ten. It teaches one small idea completely rather than many partly: a describing word has exactly two seats in an English sentence. It sits in front of the thing (a big dog, my new shoes, two tall boys), or it sits after am, is and are (The dog is big. My shoes are new.). Two pattern pictures carry the rule, a five-row table shows the same five words in both seats, and twelve tap-to-hear cards drill six everyday opposite pairs — big and small, happy and sad, hot and cold, old and new, fast and slow, clean and dirty. The whole material is built around the one error that costs these learners marks in every written task: an English describing word never takes -s. Two boys, but tall; ten dogs, but big. The plural -s belongs to the thing and to nothing else. A volume-knob section adds very in front of the word it strengthens, in both seats, and warns that very needs a describing word after it. Practice is spread across four sets — eight starter items, six very items, eight items inside short stories and a six-item test — plus a ten-card sorting task and six real errors to repair. Every single answer explains itself in language simpler than the grammar being taught.
