🛰️ Grammar B1-30: Future continuous

Material thirty of the Fleydo B1 grammar series, and the last rung of the B1 future ladder: the future continuous. The opening image is a camera placed inside a future moment — tomorrow’s county final runs from three to ten to five, so at four Isla will be playing: the action began before the moment and carries on after it. The form is taught as one frozen shape, will · be · verb-ing, identical for every person, with a full table of statements, negatives, questions and short answers, plus the two notes that save the most marks: am / is / are never travel with will, and the negative keeps its be. A three-question procedure — is the time a moment? is the action already running there? or does it land there whole? — is walked through two worked runs, the match at half past four against a plane landing at 9:40. Two compare-and-verdict pairs carry the meaning: I’ll call you at eight against I’ll be working at eight — point versus blanket — and the matter-of-course question Will you be using the car tonight? against the request-flavoured Will you use the car? A 129-word night-before message imagines match day hour by hour with thirteen tappable choices. Practice runs to thirty-one explained multiple-choice items in four sets, twelve fragments of tomorrow to sort into lands-on-the-time and running-at-the-time, six real learner errors to repair, and three traps: will being, state verbs in -ing, and the point-verb leak — I’ll be finishing at eight when I’ll finish at eight is meant. Teacher notes give a 45-minute sequence, the band-and-pin board move, the photograph rescue for a stuck learner, and Cambridge B1 Preliminary relevance.

view_agenda Lesson Plan

  • A camera inside a future moment: at four, Isla will be playing — the match began at three
  • A timeline with the match as a band and four o’clock as a pin inside it
  • The formula and the rule: this tense needs a moment you can stand inside, never a deadline

auto_fix_high Grammar Points

  • will be + verb-ing, one frozen shape for every person: I’ll be flying, she’ll be flying, they’ll be flying
  • a future moment falls inside the action: at four, Isla will be playing — the match started at three
  • will + verb lands the action on its time: I’ll call you at eight — one ring, at eight exactly
  • Will you be using the car tonight? asks about the flow of events; Will you use…? asks for a decision
  • the negative keeps all three parts: Owen won’t be playing tomorrow
  • state verbs refuse the -ing: she’ll know the score by nine, never she’ll be knowing
