Two climbing ropes on the studio floor become a two-layer timeline: story time on the near rope, everything earlier on the far one. The crew learns had + past participle for the earlier of two past events, contrasts “the show started” with “the show had started”, places already and by the time correctly, and discovers when past perfect is unnecessary.
