- A relative clause between subject and verb never changes the frame: The coach who trained the twins lives in Oslo → the coach lives
- whose marks possession inside a clause: the writer whose novel became a film — the novel belongs to the writer
- Non-defining clauses sit between two commas, add removable extra information, and never use that
- After a comma, which can refer to a whole previous idea: She said no, which surprised everyone
