🌋 The Last Day of Pompeii
On 24 August AD 79, Mount Vesuvius erupted with catastrophic force, burying the Roman city of Pompeii under metres of volcanic ash and pumice. This article tells the story through the eyes of Pliny the Younger, who witnessed the disaster from across the Bay of Naples and left the only surviving eyewitness account.
