🧭 Grammar A2-9: Word order of adverbial phrases

An A2 material on the order of place, time and frequency phrases, written for learners of about eight to twelve who can already build a simple sentence but put the extra information wherever it falls. It opens with the sentence skeleton — subject, verb, place, time — and a table of the three slots a phrase can take: the front, the middle and the end. A four-step procedure tells the learner which slot a given phrase belongs in, and two worked examples run whole sentences through it, one with two end phrases and one with always after the verb be. The frequency adverbs are reviewed on a scale from always to never before the position rule is contrasted side by side with the be exception and settled by a verdict test. Practice is spread across seven blocks: eight items on place before time, eight on the middle slot, eight mixed, a ten-phrase sorting task that builds the where-or-when habit, six build-it-yourself cards, six typical errors to repair and an eight-item scored test. A tappable club message shows thirteen phrases in a real text, each explaining why it stands where it stands. Teacher notes give a 45-minute sequence, the three-box board move, what to do with a stuck learner and the Cambridge A2 Key relevance.
