📖 Lesson A1 Grammar📐 Grammar

🔑 Grammar A1-7: Possessive ’s

The seventh material of the Fleydo A1 grammar series, written for learners of about seven to ten. It teaches the possessive ’s as a word-order habit before anything else: owner, then the little mark, then the thing. A picture of the pattern and a red/green pair (“the bike of Emre” crossed out, “Emre’s bike” ticked) open the material; a full table follows, then eight tap-and-repeat cards. Practice is spread across four sets — eight easy items that build the owner-first order, a ten-card sorting task that separates ’s meaning the owner from ’s meaning is, six items on one owner versus many owners (boy’s, boys’, children’s), and eight harder items inside real sentences, including Whose versus Who’s — followed by six typical errors to repair. Every single answer explains itself in language simpler than the grammar being taught. Teacher notes give a 45-minute classroom sequence, the three-box board move, what to do with a stuck learner and the follow-up topics.

auto_fix_high Grammar Points

  • Owner + ’s + thing: Emre’s bike (never “the bike of Emre”)
  • The mark goes on the owner, not on the thing: Emre’s bike, not Emre bike’s
  • No article after the mark: my sister’s room, not my sister’s the room
  • If the owner word already ends in s, only the mark is added: the girls’ room
  • Irregular plurals take a full ’s: the children’s toys, the men’s coats
  • ’s can also be short for is: Nina’s ten. To say she owns something, use has.
