📖 Lesson A1 Grammar🏠 Everyday Life

🏙 The Big City

In Lesson 10 of the Fleydo A1 Adults grammar series, students learn the definite article the and the fundamental English word order rule that adjectives come before nouns. The lesson opens with a visual comparison of a/an, an adjective, and the full pattern (the + adjective + noun). The dialogue follows Mr Brown giving Anna, Marco and Yuki a tour of central London — the Thames, the Shard, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, the British Museum — naturally producing the with unique places and superlatives while layering adjectives like tall, old, beautiful, famous and free before every noun. A 20-item vocabulary table combines 10 city nouns and 10 common adjectives with example phrases. Three grammar boxes present the topic: Box A lists five situations when we use the (only one, said before, both know, superlatives, unique names) plus a tip about when NOT to use it; Box B directly compares a/an vs the with side-by-side examples showing first vs second mention; Box C focuses on adjective position with a wrong vs right table and the clear rule article + adjective + noun. Practice includes a 10-question game choosing a/an/the, a 6-question quiz, 8 fill-in-the-blank sentences mixing article choice and word ordering, a speaking task acting as a tour guide, and a writing task describing a favourite city in 5 sentences.
