📖 Lesson A2 Grammar📐 Grammar

📅 Grammar A2-19: Present continuous for future arrangements

A2 learners already know the present continuous as the tense of right now, so it is a genuine surprise when the same words mean next Friday. This material makes the surprise into a rule they can re-derive: a future time word points the sentence forward, and an arrangement that already exists outside the speaker’s head — a time, a ticket, a booked room, another person who is expecting you — is what earns the tense. A diary page carries the whole idea. Learners meet the full form table with negatives, questions and -ing spelling, run a three-question decision procedure through two worked examples, then resolve the contrast with be going to in a side-by-side comparison that ends in a verdict. Thirty-two multiple-choice items, a ten-plan sorter, six error corrections and three trap boxes drill the choice until it is automatic. No audio; English throughout.

auto_fix_high Grammar Points

  • subject + am / is / are + verb-ing + future time word for fixed arrangements
  • negatives and questions: I’m not meeting…, Are you coming…?, What are you doing…?
  • -ing spelling: meet → meeting, come → coming, swim → swimming, stay → staying
  • present continuous (arranged) vs be going to (intention, nothing fixed yet)
  • no will in front of an -ing word; the tense carries the future alone
  • only people make arrangements: weather and guesses take going to or will
