🦋 If I Had Wings, I'd Fly — Second Conditional

This A2 Teens lesson teaches the second conditional — English's tense for everything that isn't true: pure daydreams, polite advice, and quiet wishes. You'll learn the formula (if + past simple, would / wouldn't + verb), why English uses the past tense form for present unreal situations, the special were rule that survives only in this construction (always "If I were you" — never "if I was you"), and how to distinguish first conditional (real possibility) from second conditional (pure imagination). Four magazine stories anchor the grammar in teenage voices: Kefilwe daydreams about wings at her Cape Town bus stop, Eleni's Athenian grandmother gives advice with "If I were you", Nika in Tbilisi confronts a quiet regret about an unplayed piano, and Tomás and Lucas share an imaginary morning across the Buenos Aires–Madrid distance. The lesson includes 10 vocabulary items for hypothetical situations, six flashcards for daydreams, eight colour-coded fill-in-the-blanks, a speaking task with five "what would you do if..." prompts, a writing task imagining a parallel life, and an 8-question quiz.
