📖 Lesson A1 Grammar📐 Grammar

🏃 Grammar A1-20: Present continuous

The Fleydo A1 material for the present continuous, written for learners of about seven to ten. It teaches the form as two parts that always travel together: part one is am / is / are, part two is the verb with -ing, and the -ing word can never stand on its own. That single idea is drilled first, because ✗ I playing football is the error these learners actually write. The second half is the spelling: four small groups shown as picture-clear cards — most verbs just add -ing, verbs ending in a quiet e lose it (write → writing), short verbs double the last letter (run → running), and verbs ending in ie change it to y (lie → lying) — followed by a twelve-verb sorting task and eight spelling items. Negatives and questions are shown to be exactly the A1-1 rules again (She isn’t running, Are they playing?), which learners find reassuring rather than new. Twenty-eight multiple-choice items across four sets, twelve sorted verbs, eight tap-to-hear cards and six errors to repair, with an explanation on every single answer. Teacher notes give a 45-minute sequence, the two-box board move and the follow-up topics.

auto_fix_high Grammar Points

  • Two parts, never one: person + am / is / are + verb-ing
  • Most verbs: just add -ing — play → playing, eat → eating
  • Verb ends in a quiet e: the e goes — write → writing, make → making
  • Short verb: the last letter comes twice — run → running, sit → sitting
  • Verb ends in ie: the ie becomes y — lie → lying
  • Negative and question work like A1-1: She isn’t running. Are they playing?
