🍎 Little Stars 22: Fruit I Like

A complete 45-minute teacher-led lesson that opens the Yummy Food unit of the Little Stars Compact 36 journey. Safety comes before language: the teacher plan opens with an allergy check that must be done before any real fruit is smelled, touched or tasted, and it tells the teacher to switch the whole class to toy fruit if a single family list is missing. After the fixed Hello Routine, three baskets open one at a time so the class can smell and pass round a real apple, banana and orange while echoing the chunk “I like apples!” A four-line Yummy Tummy song puts one fruit on each line and runs slow, faster and then whispered, with a big belly rub on every line. Pip then calls a fruit and everybody dashes to the matching corner card and points. The funniest screen feeds the puppet: Pip gobbles the fruit with a happy “Yummy!” and spits out a sock with a comic “No, no!”, which is exactly how the word yummy gets its meaning. A paper fruit bowl craft closes the language work, with every cut-out named aloud as it is glued in. Recognition always comes before production: smelling, pointing and running all count as correct answers, nobody is ever eliminated, and nothing is read and nothing is written.
