👪 My World in Words
The third lesson in the Adults A1 grammar series consolidates the subject pronouns students met implicitly in Lessons 1 and 2 and introduces their possessive partners. The reading is a heart-warming classroom moment: Anna opens a photo album and walks Marco and Yuki through her family in Rome — her mother Sofia, her father Roberto, her sister Giulia and Giulia's Spanish husband Pablo, their two young children Luca and Emma, and Anna's lazy cat Mimi. Every possessive adjective (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) appears naturally multiple times, with the bonus discussion of when to use 'it' vs 'she/he' for a pet. Grammar is organised into three progressive boxes: Box A reviews the seven subject pronouns with usage notes (including the absence of formal/informal 'you' in English); Box B introduces the seven possessive adjectives with a parallel table; Box C directly addresses the three classic traps that plague A1 students — its/it's, their/they're, and your/you're — with right-vs-wrong examples and a foolproof test ('Can I replace it with it is / they are / you are?'). Twenty family vocabulary items support discussion. Exercises include a 10-item game mixing pronoun types, a 6-item comprehension and grammar quiz, an 8-item fill-in-the-blanks, and a productive speaking/writing task where students describe three people in their own family using at least five different possessive adjectives.
