⏳ Grammar A2-20: Past continuous: introduction

The first past continuous material of the Fleydo A2 series, written for learners of about eight to twelve who already own the past simple. It is built on one picture and returns to it in every section: the long action is a line, the short action is a dot on that line, the line takes was or were plus an -ing word, and the dot stays in the past simple. The form is stated once in a formula and drilled in a full table with negatives, questions and the -ing spelling rules; a three-step decision procedure and two worked examples show how an expert actually chooses; and two side-by-side comparisons resolve the contrast with the past simple, including the pair that changes the story rather than the grammar, when Theo arrived we were eating against when Theo arrived we ate. A separate section gives while its long action and when its short one, with all four legal orders of the two halves and the comma rule. Practice runs to thirty-one multiple-choice items across four sets, a ten-action sorting task, six reveal cards, seven corrections and three trap boxes, and every single answer explains the reasoning instead of announcing a verdict.
