📖 Lesson B1 Speaking🌍 World Around Us

💬 Builders: The Round Table

A fully interactive B1.1 speaking-task lesson that closes the Builders' Studio Opinion Architecture module by running moderated round-table discussions. Learners warm up by recalling PREP and moderators, then build a three-part task toolkit: The Round-Table Roles (a rotating moderator who opens, invites by name, keeps it fair and wraps up), Your PREP Contribution (Point, Reason, Example, Point), and Respond with Grace (agree-and-extend and polite-disagree moves with a phrase bank). Ten B1 discussion words (round table, moderator, contribution, turn, invite, graceful, respond, fair, opinion, wrap up) appear with full definitions and examples, and six become review flashcards. The reading is a 150-word round-table excerpt in which Sam moderates while Marco, Aylin and Priya debate sport versus art using PREP and graceful responses, with seven hover-tooltip words. Practice offers eight fill-in-the-blank items on round-table roles and moves with live feedback, hints and a score. Speaking gives five round-table prompts and a six-line model discussion; the writing task is a 40-70 word plan for a round table to moderate at home with a four-point checklist and a live word counter with auto-save; and an eight-question quiz mixes discussion-discourse skills with two reading-comprehension questions, each with a one-sentence explanation and a saved score.
