Key Vocabulary
Grammar Points
- First conditional formula: if + present simple, will + base verb
- The if-clause uses present simple for future meaning — NEVER will
- Word order: if-clause first (comma) or result first (no comma) — both correct
- Unless = if not: 'Unless you study, you won't pass' = 'If you don't study, you won't pass'
- Result clause variations: might (less certain), can (ability/permission), imperative (instruction), be going to (pre-decided plan)
- Time clauses with as soon as, when, before, after, until follow the same rule: present simple for future
- In case = because something might happen (precaution, not condition)
- First conditional describes real, possible future situations — distinct from second conditional (imaginary)
