📖 Lesson A1 Vocabulary🏠 Everyday Life

📱 On the Phone: Can I Speak To...?

A fully interactive A1 Teens functional-language lesson built around a real-life skill that worries many learners — talking on the phone. Students warm up with four questions about their own phone habits, then learn how a call starts from both sides: the person who answers ('Hello?') and the caller ('Can I speak to...?'), plus the reply ('Speaking!'). A visual phone-phrase grid presents eight key expressions with icons (Can I speak to...?, Who's calling?, This is... speaking, Just a moment, Sorry I can't hear you, Can I leave a message?, Can you call back later?, Thanks bye!), and a reference table pairs each function with what to say. Eight phone words are chipped visually. The reading is an extended, double-length set of three short stories (around 480 words) at the Garcia house: a friend calling for Lucas, a wrong number, and a message for Dad — full of natural, repeated phone language in context, with an encouraging message about not being shy on the phone. Ten key vocabulary items appear in a horizontally-scrollable table with part of speech, A1-friendly definition, and example, while six receive detailed flashcards. Practice includes 8 contextualised fill-in-the-blank questions with hints, live validation, and score tracking; a speaking section with a back-to-back phone role-play; a guided 50–70 word writing task (a phone dialogue) with a checklist and live word counter; and a full 8-question multiple-choice quiz featuring a progress bar, per-question explanations, a result circle with motivational feedback, and localStorage persistence.
