📖 Lesson B1 Writing🎯 Exam Prep

✉️ IELTS Writing Task 1 General Training: Formal, Semi-Formal and Informal Letters

General Training Task 1 asks for a letter of at least 150 words in about 20 minutes, and the most common reason for lost marks is inconsistent tone. In this lesson you learn to identify the reader, match greetings with sign-offs, and pick phrases for complaining, requesting, apologising and inviting in formal, semi-formal and informal English. Three complete model letters (a formal complaint, a semi-formal request to a landlord, an informal invitation) are annotated to show why they work. A ten-item tone-switch exercise with answers and a pre-submission checklist finish the lesson.
