📖 Lesson A2 Reading🎉 Fun & Culture

⚡ Explorers: The Day Everything Happened

A fully interactive A2.2 Kids reading lesson in the Explorer Club Master Level built around a multi-interruption story. Students warm up with four questions about crazy days and joint words, then learn a reading toolkit in two blocks — How to Read a When/While Story (a four-step routine: find the long action with was/were + -ing, find the joint word, find the fast past-simple action, and colour the two parts, with worked example lines) and When or While? (a rules table separating when-interruptions from while-parallel-actions, plus a joint-signal-words panel: when, while, suddenly, then, in the end). Ten key words (normal, chaos, brush, burn, alarm, slip, soak, crazy, joint, interrupt) appear in a scrollable table and six review flashcards. The reading is 'The Day Everything Happened', a ~120-word Team File told by Kofi in three sections (morning chaos, school chaos, ending) with many when/while joints and eight hover-tooltip words. Practice offers eight fill-in-the-blank items (when/while, was/were, -ing verbs, lesson words) with live feedback and a score; speaking gives five retell prompts and a five-line model dialogue between Mia and Kofi; the writing task is a guided 30–50 word interruption paragraph with a four-point joint checklist and live counter; and the quiz is eight multiple-choice questions (six on reading when/while joints, two on the story) with explanations, a progress bar, a result circle, and localStorage persistence.

auto_fix_high Grammar Points

  • Map the joints: long action (was/were + -ing) + joint word + fast action (past simple)
  • When shows a fast action interrupting a long one (I was reading when the lights went out)
  • While shows two long actions at once (While Kofi was singing, Zeynep was drawing)
  • Signal words suddenly and then warn that a surprise is coming
  • Reading strategy: colour the long action and the interruption in two colours
  • Literal comprehension: who was doing what when the surprise happened
