📖 Explorers: Story Sparks

A fully interactive A2.1 Kids storytelling lesson from the Explorer Club world. Children learn to insert a dialogue spark — the exact words a person says — into a story retell. Four warm-up questions get them shouting, whispering and remembering hero lines. The language focus has three blocks: The Exact Words (direct speech inside speech marks, with a capital letter first and the ! or ? kept), Speech Verbs (shouted, whispered, cried, asked and how each shows the way something was said), and Two Ways to Spark (words-first vs person-first, shown in a reference table). Ten speech verbs (said, shouted, whispered, cried, asked, called, answered, laughed, screamed, gasped) appear in a scrollable table with kid-friendly definitions and examples, and six are reviewed as flashcards. The reading, The Lost Dog, is a Team Compass tale packed with dialogue sparks and key speech verbs highlighted on hover. Practice offers eight contextualised fill-in-the-blank questions (choosing the right speech verb and the term 'marks') with live green/red feedback and hints. A speaking section gives five voice-acting prompts and a five-line model dialogue where the team retells the dog story with voices. A guided 25-45 word writing task builds a story with one dialogue spark using a four-point checklist and a live word counter with auto-save, and an eight-question quiz mixes direct-speech punctuation and verb choice with two reading-comprehension questions, a progress bar, per-question explanations and a result circle with tiered feedback.
