🗺️ Around Town: Where Is It? There is/are and Prepositions of Place
A fully interactive advanced A1 Teens grammar-and-speaking lesson that extends the earlier 'In My Town' topic with there is/there are and prepositions of place. Students begin with four reflection warm-up questions, then study the language in three clear blocks: a picture grid of twelve town places (school, hospital, bank, shop, park, museum, café, bakery, library, station, hotel, restaurant); a there is/there are block teaching the singular (there is) and plural (there are), negatives (there isn't / there aren't) and questions (Is there…? / Are there…?); and a prepositions-of-place block with six picture cards (next to, between, behind, in front of, opposite, near) each with a simple visual and description. Ten everyday words and phrases (town, park, shop, station, next to, between, behind, in front of, near, there is/are) appear in a horizontally scrollable table with simple A1 definitions and example sentences, and six receive detailed review flashcards. The reading is a magazine-style feature with three first-person mini-stories from teens in Greece, Colombia, and South Korea, each describing the places in their town and where they are, with key vocabulary highlighted on hover. Practice includes 8 contextualised fill-in-the-blank questions (is/are after 'there', and prepositions) with live green/red validation, hints, and a running score; a speaking section with five interview prompts and a model dialogue; a guided 40–60 word writing task with a four-point checklist (there is, there are, two prepositions, four places) and live word counter; and a full 8-question multiple-choice quiz featuring a progress bar, per-question explanations, a conic-gradient result circle with tiered motivational feedback, and localStorage persistence.
