⛓️ Builders: Unless & Warnings
A fully interactive B1.1 grammar lesson that extends the first conditional into 'unless' and warnings for the Builders' Studio. Learners warm up with four questions about real-life warnings, then study three blocks: Unless = If Not (unless + present, will + base, equal to 'if not', with 'won't' for negative predictions), Warning Conditionals (If + present, it'll + base, said with a strong falling voice), and Warning Starters (a reference table pairing alarm phrases like 'Be careful!' and 'Watch out!' with full warnings). Ten B1 safety words appear with full definitions and examples, and six become review flashcards. The reading is a 155-word Safety File in which Priya, Aylin, Marco and Sam trade warnings around a hot pan and a skateboard, with eight hover-tooltip words. Practice offers eight fill-in-the-blank items (unless, won't, will, careful, not, or, will, present) with live feedback, hints and a score. Speaking gives five warning prompts and a six-line model dialogue; the writing task is a 40-70 word kind warning note using unless and a warning conditional, with a four-point checklist and a live word counter with auto-save; and an eight-question quiz mixes unless/warning grammar with two reading-comprehension questions, each with a one-sentence explanation and a saved score.
Lesson Plan
- 4 questions about everyday warnings and what "unless" means
- Silent thinking or pair-share format — no writing required
Key Vocabulary
Grammar Points
- 'Unless' = 'if not': Unless you hurry, we'll miss it (= If you don't hurry...)
- Keep the present tense after 'unless', not 'will'
- Warning conditionals: If + present, it'll + base (If you touch that, it'll break!)
- Warning intonation: say warnings with a strong, falling voice
- 'won't' for negative predictions (Unless it stops, the match won't start)
- Alarm starters (Be careful!, Watch out!) often lead into a conditional warning
