📖 Lesson A2 Grammar🏠 Everyday Life

⚖️ Comparing Things: Bigger, Faster, Better!

The second lesson of the A2 Teens journey, following the past simple. Students warm up by comparing familiar things, then study comparative adjectives: the core rule that short (one-syllable) adjectives add -er while long (two-or-more-syllable) adjectives use more, always followed by than. The irregular comparatives good→better, bad→worse, and far→further are highlighted as must-learn forms. Clear formula blocks show each pattern, and a spelling table covers the -er rules (+er, +r, y→ier, doubling) plus the more rule for long adjectives. A visual adjective→comparative grid shows twelve adjectives colour-coded by type (short +er in green, long more in pink, irregular in purple). The reading is an extended, double-length story (around 440 words) in which two cousins — Maya from a big city and Omar from a small village — visit each other and constantly compare their two homes, modelling natural comparative use and ending with the idea that things are often simply 'different', not 'better' or 'worse'. Ten key vocabulary items appear in a horizontally-scrollable table with part of speech, A2-friendly definition, and example, while six receive detailed flashcards (including than, better, worse). Practice includes 8 contextualised fill-in-the-blank questions (write the comparative) with hints, live validation, and score tracking; a speaking section comparing pairs of things; a guided 60–80 word writing task with a checklist and live word counter; and a full 8-question multiple-choice quiz featuring a progress bar, per-question explanations, a result circle with motivational feedback, and localStorage persistence.
